The crowd was the usual one: Warren, Rich, Bruce, and me. The routine was also the usual: meet at Warren's house in Colts Neck, pile our luggage, golf bags, and selves in Warren's SUV, and head off for a diner near the course. Have a good breakfast, then go to the first course on the itinerary and play...

Sea Oaks

Sea Oaks is a good choice for the first round of the trip. It is easier than most of the courses we play in the south -- though hardly a pushover. It has its challenges; my favorite hole is #16, a par-5 with a peninsula green. Here are a few pictures from our round.

Shore Gate & Ballamor

I'm a little sorry my camera stayed in its case for Shore Gate and Ballamor. But only a little sorry. I was focusing on my golf game, which was hard enough. Thinking about picture opportunities would have made the golf worse, I'm sure; let's not forget what we came for.

I really liked Shore Gate. It had a lot of sand and some water to avoid -- and I didn't always avoid it. Challenging course. I'd like to try it again. Anyway, no pictures, but here's what it looks like in an aerial photo.

Ballamor is certainly a fine golf course. The layout is just not that different from the courses we normally play, except for more than the normal number of water hazards. Well, it is very different in one sense: it consists of four mini-courses separated by hundreds of yards of woods. It is easy to think you are a long way from civilization, having to drive from one mini-course to another -- six times during the round.
